University Faculty Council Chair (2014-2015)
Dear University of Tennessee Faculty:
Welcome to the University Faculty Council website. The UFC is the voice for faculty on all UT campuses throughout the system. The UFC is composed of the Faculty Senate presidents on each campus, an elected representative from each campus, and the faculty representatives on the Board of Trustees. We attend all Board of Trustees meetings and meet regularly with Dr. DiPietro. Since its formation in 2007, The UFC has been instrumental in pushing for change and leading many critical discussions. We have participated in the strategic planning task forces, and have advocated for more transparency across the campuses about budgetary concerns, promotion and merit raises, and equitable library access for all campuses.
Our top priority this year is to work with Dr. DiPietro as he considers a more sustainable business model for the UT system. We are all aware that state appropriations decline each year, which will result in a ten-year funding gap of about $155 million. To address this gap will require long-term strategies. There is no doubt we will have to be willing to change in order to survive and thrive. Changes in the political climate in Tennessee will necessitate more aggressive action in the advocacy world. The UFC will become more active in the UT advocacy program, and we encourage all faculty members in the system to visit http://advocacy.tennessee.edu and learn how you can become involved. We are also working to encourage greater expedience with faculty handbook revisions and are addressing how the Sexual Misconduct Policy will be implemented and enforced on our campuses. As always, we want to maintain open lines of communication among campuses.
Please contact me, or one of your council representatives, if you have a concern or question regarding our work on behalf of the faculty. We will advocate for you on all matters of concern to the UT system administration and Board of Trustees.
Candace White, UFC Chair
