Instructions for transfers, nontraditional and all other students
Students wishing to apply for UT Promise at UT Knoxville, UT Chattanooga, UT Southern, UT Martin or UT Health Science Center must complete all of the following application steps. These deadlines apply to all students who are not currently high school seniors, including the following:
- Transfer students enrolling at UT during or after fall 2023
- Nontraditional students or adult learners enrolling at UT during or after fall 2023
- First-time freshmen who took a gap year (graduated May 2022) and enrolling at UT during or after fall 2023
- Current UT students who have never previously received UT Promise
Deadlines | Steps |

June 1, 2023 | Priority deadline to apply for undergraduate admission to your UT institution(s) of choice.
To track your service hours, you will need your NetID, which you will receive upon admission to the university. Thus, we highly encourage you to apply for admission before the priority deadline. |
July 1, 2023 | Complete the UT Promise Application.
This application is only for students who are currently NOT high school seniors. |
July 1, 2023 | Priority deadline to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Visit www.fafsa.gov.To receive your financial aid, including UT Promise, you must complete financial aid verification if you are selected. |
July 1, 2023 | Priority deadline to ensure UT institution of choice is listed on your TSAC Portal and FAFSA. |
July 1, 2023 | Complete and submit 8 hours of community service. Submit by 11:59 PM through your campus service tracking site.You may begin working on your service hours after December 16, 2021. You will submit your service hours through your campus service tracker with your NetID. Please use the links below to track your service hours:
It is important to note that you MUST have a UT NetID to track your hours. Failure to have received a NetID from the university will not count as an exception for not submitting your service hours by Dec. 1. |
Sept. 1, 2023 | Your financial aid verification must be fully complete (not just submitted for review) and your UT Promise award accepted by this date for you to be eligible. Failure to do this will result in not receiving the UT Promise. |
Fall 2023 | Enroll as a full-time student at your UT institution of choice. |
After you enroll at a UT campus in fall 2022, you will be paired with a UT Promise mentor. You must meet with your mentor three (3) times each semester in order to maintain your eligibility. You will receive communications about your mentor once enrolled at UT. In addition, you must complete and submit eight (8) hours of community every semester service prior to each semester to maintain your UT Promise scholarship. Once enrolled at UT, you will track your community service hours here.
