Federal Executive Order Status
This page outlines how each entity in the University of Tennessee System is responding to Executive Order 14042 and state laws passed during a special session on COVID-19 in 2021.
UT Knoxville
Most employees are included in the federal executive order. Masks must be worn in accordance with CDC guidelines. Everyone must be vaccinated by Jan. 18.
UT Chattanooga
At this time, UTC does not have new contracts or contract amendments from the federal government that require us to mandate the vaccine or masks on our campus. Thus, the state law prohibits UTC from implementing a vaccine or mask requirement at this time. If and when UTC receives a contract that imposes the requirements of the executive order, we will communicate any changes at that time.
UT Southern
At this time, UTS does not have new contracts or contract amendments from the federal government that require us to mandate the vaccine or masks on our campus. Thus, the state law prohibits UTS from implementing a vaccine or mask requirement. UTS may eventually receive a contract that imposes the requirements of the executive order. We will communicate any changes at that time.
UT Martin
At this time, UTM does not have new contracts or contract amendments from the federal government that require us to mandate the vaccine or masks on our campus. Thus, the state law prohibits UTM from implementing a vaccine or mask requirement. UTM may eventually receive a contract that imposes the requirements of the executive order. We will communicate any changes at that time.
UT Health Science Center
All employees are included in the federal executive order. Masks must be worn in accordance with CDC guidelines. Everyone must be vaccinated by Jan. 18.
UT Institute of Agriculture
All employees are included in the federal executive order. Masks must be worn in accordance with CDC guidelines. Everyone must be vaccinated by Jan. 18.
Institute for Public Service
At this time, IPS does not have new contracts or contract amendments from the federal government that require us to mandate the vaccine or masks on our campus. Thus, the state law prohibits IPS from implementing a vaccine or mask requirement. IPS may eventually receive a contract that imposes the requirements of the executive order. We will communicate any changes at that time.
UT Foundation
Employees on a campus and within an institute must follow the guidelines for that location. The federal executive order does not apply to employees in the central office.
UT System Administration
All employees are included in the federal executive order. Masks must be worn in accordance with CDC guidelines. Everyone must be vaccinated by Jan. 18.
