Building a Culture of Wellness at UT
At the University of Tennessee, well-being is more than a goal — it’s a foundation for success.
As the University’s first Chief Wellness Officer, I’m here to help create a culture where mental health is valued, support is accessible and every student, faculty and staff member feels seen and supported.
Dr. Jessi Gold, chief wellness officer, University of Tennessee System
As both a psychiatrist (I still see patients!) and someone who’s personally experienced the challenges of mental health in college, I understand the complexity of these issues. When I first sought help as an undergrad, I was told I wasn’t ‘sick enough’ for campus care. That moment showed me how hard it is to be anything but ‘fine’—and how crucial support is when someone reaches out. It inspired me to be a different kind of clinician and leader. At UT, I can be both.
Throughout my career, I’ve focused on mental health advocacy, burnout prevention and building systems that put people first. I’m proud to join UT in building on the great work already happening and driving new initiatives that make a lasting difference.
Together, we’re shaping a University that doesn’t just educate — it empowers. We’re on our way to becoming a national model for what higher education can be when it’s rooted in connection, purpose and care. At UT, you’re not alone. You’re part of a community that cares.
