To understand the mechanisms involved in the altered expression and regulation of ion channels in the intestine. Colonic biopsy samples from HC, ALC and ALO subjects, will be subjected to transcriptomic analysis, emphasizing ion channels and related regulatory proteins. A transcriptomic analysis will be performed by Novogene based on a contract with UTHSC Molecular Research Center. The data will be processed at UTHSC to analyze the ion channels and relevant regulatory proteins by our bioinformatics core. N of 20 per group is expected to provide >80 power for statistical analysis.
