Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is the governing body of The University of Tennessee. The Board is comprised of five ex officio members (the Governor, Commissioner of Agriculture, Commissioner of Education, Executive Director of the Tennessee Higher Education Commission, and President of the University) and 21 members appointed by the Governor.

Office of the President
The Office of the President is the systemwide headquarters of the University of Tennessee, managing its fiscal and business operations, advocating on its behalf with lawmakers and government officials, and supporting the academic, research and outreach missions across its campuses and institutes. President Joe DiPietro became the 25th president of the University of Tennessee on Jan. 1, 2011. The president oversees the campus and institute chancellors and is a member of the UT Board of Trustees. He and the president of Battelle Memorial Institute rotate two-year terms as chairman of the Board of Governors of UT-Battelle, which has managed Oak Ridge National Laboratory for the Department of Energy since 2000.
