MTA between UTHSC and American Type Culture Collection substance abuse including smoking and alcohol are prevalent among people living with HIV. However, currently there is no specific treatment available to treat substance abuse exacerbated HIV replication and its associated complications, especially in brain reservoirs. Therefore, our aim is to test anti-HIV activity of chemodietary agents/neutraceuticals against substance abuse exacerbated HIV replication in both peripeheral and CNS cells. In our preliminary studies, our selected compound showed a promising result when tested using U1-differentiated macrophages. Our next goal is to test its efficacy in T-cells before moving to preclinical studies. Therefore, we request ACH2 cell lines from ATCC, HIV reagent program for our research work. ACH2 cell lines are T-cell clone of A3.01 cell and latently infected with HIV-1.
