COOKEVILLE— When Ralph and Mary Johnson moved from Virginia to Tennessee, they didn’t describe themselves as fans of the University of Tennessee. In the decades since, the couple became such fans that their property now boasts “Everywhere You Look, UT.”
The perception of the value of higher education has been declining, and while there are clearly many areas to improve upon, there are many “myths” that just need busting. Here are just a few of the most common myths.
KNOXVILLE — In a move to foster collaboration and drive positive change, the University of Tennessee System has announced the launch of the UT Grand Challenge Grants with a commitment of up to $5 million to tackle Tennessee’s most pressing challenges.

The University of Tennessee Board of Trustees Executive Committee met Friday morning and approved the appointment of Bernie Savarese as the permanent vice president for academic affairs, research and student success and Jeff Smith as vice president for national labs.

Twenty-four executives from campuses and institutes across the University of Tennessee System were chosen to make up the 2024 class of the Executive Leadership Institute.
Jeff Smith, special advisor to University of Tennessee System President Randy Boyd, will be recommended to the UT Board of Trustees to serve as the vice president for national labs at the UT System.
This new leadership role, effective Feb. 1, 2024, builds on existing strengths and support at each campus across the UT System to promote mental health and well-being among students, faculty, and employees.
