UT Promise: Making College More Affordable

UT Promise is a last-dollar scholarship that covers tuition and mandatory fees for eligible Tennessee residents attending UT campuses in Knoxville, Chattanooga, Pulaski, Martin and Memphis. 

Designed to make higher education more accessible, UT Promise ensures that after other financial aid—such as Pell Grants, HOPE Scholarships, or other institutional aid—is applied, qualifying students won’t have to pay out-of-pocket for any remaining tuition and mandatory fees. To be eligible, students must qualify for the HOPE Scholarship, have an adjusted gross income of $75,000 or less and total assets under $75,000. UT Promise also guarantees a minimum $500 award per semester for all qualifying students.

Update to UT Promise Requirements and Mentorship

As part of our ongoing commitment to maintain transparency, we would like to address some changes that will go into effect in Spring 2025.

  1. We will discontinue our use of the mentor platform starting February 28.
  2. Mentors and students who remain matched will receive an email with further details on how to meet and fulfill the mentorship requirement this semester.
  3. All UT Promise students–whether assigned a mentor or not–will be required to complete a reflection survey to fulfill their mentorship requirement this semester. Information about the survey will be sent directly to students via email and posted to the UT Promise website.
  4. Students are still required to complete 8 hours of community service to remain eligible.
  5. The deadline to submit community service hours and complete the reflection survey is June 1, 2025.
